REQUALIFICATION PROGRAM INSPECTION

Dear Mr. Wadley:

In a telephone conversation on August 4,1999, Mr. Jon Bartlet, Operator Requal Training, and Mr. Micheal Bielby, NRC Examiner, made arrangements for the NRC to inspect the licensed operator requalification program at the Quad Cities Nuclear Station. Your staff has agreed to participate in a voluntary pilot inspection program to be conducted in accordance with inspection

Procedure 71111, Reactor Safety, Attachment 11, Licensed Operator Requalification. The

' inspection is planned for the weeks of October 18,1999 and October 25,1999, which coincides with your regularly scheduled requalification examination cycle. The staff at your facility should prepare and conduct the requalification examinations in accordance with your NRO-approved requalification program.

In accordance with 10 CFR 55.59(c), the NRC may request facility licensees to submit their comprehensive requalification wr;tten examinations or annual operating tests as necessary to support the NRC's inspection program needs. In order for the NRC to adequately prepare for this inspection, please fumish the written examinations and operating tests scheduled fc' the week of the inspection to the NRC by October 12,1999. Mr. Bartlet has been advised of this request and provided with the name and address of the NRC lead inspector assigned to this inspection.
