50-425; Erosion Under Unit 2 Cable Tunnel Gentlemen:

On March 10, 1980 it was reported to your office that a potential report-able item under 10CFR50.55e existed at Plant Vogtle concerning erosion

under the Unit 2 cable tunnel.

This item was reviewed with J. J. Lenahan of NRC's Region II office during an inspection at the Vogtle facility as documented in I&E Inspection Report Numbers 50-424/80-05 and 50-425/80-05. In accordance with these reports we advised the NRC (Messrs. Milton Hunt, Jack Rausch and Lenahan) on March 19, 1980 that we had received the engineering evaluation of this item from Bechtel and that we planned to begin removal of the mud slab in the affected area on March 21, 1980. The evaluation was discussed at that time and on March 27, 1980 we advised Milton Hunt that we were commencing with the required testing and repair work.

The repairs to this area are now complete and we have resumed backfilling activities in the area. A complete report will be filed with your office l by April 30, 1980.
