GPC letter GN-1468 dated July 6, 1988 In previous correspondence Georgia Power Company notified the NRC of a potentially reportable condition under 10CFR50.55(e) involving Unit 2 penetration seals which were found to be not watertight.
Our investigation into this concern is not yet complete.
The penetrations which must be sealed have been identified and procedures and drawings are being prepared for the repair of these penetrations.
Two materials have been selected to fill the small leak paths between the foam seal and the structure, and between the cables in a bundle.
A test rig was constructed to simulate a typical upper cable spreading room configuration and these sealants were verified to provide a waterproof seal.
A second test rig was corstructed to simulate a typical plant configuration.
Testing in this rig is scheduled to be complete by the end of August.
A final report on this issue for Unit 2 is scheduled to be submitted by October 20, 1988.
This condition was reported for Unit 1 via Licensee Event Report (LER)88-016.
