.tijustable Threading Dies AECM-80/101

Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

On April 14, 1980, Mississippi Power & Light Company notified Mr. F.

Cantrell of your office of a Potentially Reportable Deficiency (PRD) at the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) construction site. The deficiency concerns damage to Intermediate Metallic Conduit (IMC) resulting from adjustable threading dies. The dies produced burrs and sharp edges on the conduit interior and caused cable insulation damage when the cables were installed.

The extent and safety implications of this deficiency remain under investigation. Sample portions of conduit have been tested to determine those sizes that are involved in this deficiency. We are in the process of pulling and inspecting cables in suspect conduits.

We expect to provide our final report and determination of reportability no later then July 15, 1980. Our status report on PRD-80/20 is attached.

This deficiency is O so oeing tracked by Bechtel Management Corrective Action Report (MCAR) - GGNS No. 74.

Yours truly, 0
