. Attachment to AECM-80/101 STNJ.,S REPORT ON PRD-80/20 I. Description of Deficiency

, Adjustable threading dies have caused damage to Intermediate Metallic,,

, Conduit (IMC). The dies produced burrs and sharp edges on the conduit-interior and caused cable insulation damage when the cables were installed in the conduit.

II. Safety Implications Cables noted thus far with damaged insulation are currently being evaluated with respect to safety impact. An evaluation of this aspect will be provided in our final report.

III. Corrective Actions o

Sample portions of conduit were tested to <* ermine those sizes of conduit involved in this deficiency. Preliminary ults show that conduit which is two inches in diameter and larger is susgeptible to threading die damage.

A sample inspection program is currently underway to determine the extent of the problem. This program calls for the pulling and inspection of installed cables in certain suspect conduits. Cables exhibiting damaged insulation will either be repaired or replaced.

This matter is being tranked under MP&L PRD-80/20 and Bechtel Management Corrective Action Report (MCAR) - GGNS No. 74.
