==Dear Mr. Stolz:==

This is to provide additional information to that provided in Toledo Edison's letter dated December 30, 1982 (Serial No. 889). That letter provided information concerning training for mitigating core damage at Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Station, Unit No. 1.
Toledo Edison's response seems to have created some confusion as to the duties of the Station Superintendent in the Technical Support Center during an emergency. The Davis-Bease Station Superintendent, while maintaining communication with Toledo Edison Corporate Management, is in charge of the Technical Support Center. However, his normal duties as Station Superintendent, as listed below, provide extensive exposure to the details of mitigating core damage.
: 1. Review and approval of both draft and final procedure revisions.
This allows the Station Superintendent to keep abreast of any changes in operating or emergency procedures, including those relating to mitigating core damage.
: 2. Day-to-day involvement in plant activities. This exposure provides regular reinforcement of knowledge gained by the Station Superin-tendent due to experience.
: 3. Regular involvement in industry groups, such as the Babcock & Wilcox Superintendent's Group and Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) activities. The technical discussions that take place during these meetings and conferences pcovide additional input for the Station Superintendent in relation to industry attitudes and theoriea on major issues, such as mitigating core damage.
