The information is as initially received without verification or evaluation, and is basically all that is known by Region II staff in Atlanta, Georgia on this date.

RESPONSE TO HURRICANE DANNY-Hurricane Danny is relatively stationary at 29.6 latitude and 89.1 longitude (extreme Southeast Louisiana) as of 1:00 p.m. CDT, July 18, 1997, with maximum sustained winds at 75 mph. Farley Nuclear plant is located 265 miles Northeast of the hurricane. Hurricane force winds extended outward up to 25 miles.

The. Region II State Liason Officer has been in contact with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the State of Alabama. The FEMA Ragional Operations Center (ROC) was activated at-12:00 p.m. CDT, and will remain staffed until 9:00 p.m. CDT. The ROC will be fully staffed at 7:00 a.m. CDT on July 19, 1997. The State of Alabama'has activated

-their Emergency Operations Center in Clanton, Alabama. Alabama officials are expecting heavy rains and flooding in the southwestern part of the state, based on National Weather Service forecasts.

The Farley Nuclear Plant staff are taking precautionary measures in j prcptration for high wind conditions. They have secured or stored loose items and have added additional fuel oil for the emergency diesel ganarators. They are continuing to monitor hurricane status.

l NRC Region II personnel are closely monitoring the status of the hurricane and have made preparations to staff the Incident Response Osnter and dispatch support staff to the site if required. The three ensigned resident inspectors are on site and are monitoring the licensee's preparations.
