Subject: Inspection Report No. 50-354/86-59
This refers to the routine radiological controls inspection conducted by
Mr. R. L. Nimitz of this office on December 3-5, 1986 at the Hope Creek
Generating Station and to the discussions of our findings held by Mr. Nimitz
with Mr. R. Lovell at the conclusion of the inspection, and to a subsequent
telephone discussion between Mr. R. S. Salvesen of your staff and Messrs.
R. Nimitz and M. Shanbaky of this office on December 9, 1986.
Areas reviewed during this inspection are described in the enclosed inspection
report and include action on previous findings, internal and external exposure
controls, high radiation area control and ALARA. The results of two perfor-
mance tests of the dosimeters provided to your plant staff are also included.
Based on the results of this inspection, it appears that one of your activities
was not conducted in full compliance with NRC requirements, as set forth in the
Notice of Violation, enclosed herewith as Appendix A. You are required to re-
spond to this letter and in preparing your response, you should follow the
instructions in Appendix A.
The responses directed by this letter and the accompanying Notice are not
subject to the clearance procedures of the Office of Management and Budget as
required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980, PL 96-511.
