MA1883, MA-1884 AND MA-1845)

Gentlemen:

This letter provides the current status of Public Service Electric & Gas Company's actions related to Generic Letter 98-01, "Year 2000 Readiness of Computer Systems at Nuclear Power Plants." In the previous response to Generic Letter 98-01, dated-June 30, 1999, PSE&G reported that seven (7) mission critical systems for the Salem Units and four (4) mission critical systems for Hope Creek were not "Y2K Ready". PSE&G /

also provided a listing of each of these systems along with their scheduled remediation dates.

To date, PSE&G has completed the remediation of the four (4) Hope Creek systems and the four (4) Salem Unit 2 and Common systems. The three (3) remaining Salem Unit 1 systems will be completed during the current refueling outage for the unit, which is scheduled for November 11, 1999. PSE&G does not anticipate any problems in completing these three (3) activities as scheduled, as the corresponding Salem Unit 2 remediations were previously completed successfully. The attached table provides the detailed status of the subject systems. Should you have any questions regarding this request, please contact Mr. Ray Moore at 856-339-1741.
