y 1. PURPOSE i

1.1 Objective The objective of this procedure is to provide instructions for overhauling Deming vertical turbine pumps (Figure 4700G).

1.2 Discussion This procedure is written to provide guidance for performing maintenance on Deming vertical turbine pumps (Figure 4700G). The instructions detail motor removal; pump removal, disassembly, inspection, assembly, and installation; and motor installation.

3. PRECAUTIONS 3.1 Flammable liquids are pumped by these components. Use care when breaching system boundaries and contain all fuel oil.

3.2 Match mark components prior to disassembly as necessaiy to aid in reassembly. Do not match mark delicate parts or critical mating surfaces.

3.3 Ensure all chemical consumables to be used in or on power plant components are controlled in accordance with CC 1," Control of Chemical i Consumable Products." j l

4. INSTRUCTIONS i V 4.1 Motor Removal l

4.1.1 IE the pump has a single-motor arrangement, PROCEED as ,

C AUTIO N On M8-85A the discharge head flange mounting bolts are not tack welded to the mounting flange. The discharge head flange must not be unbolted from the mounting flange; the bolts will fall into the tank.

4.2.6 PERFORM applicable action:

IE local ID is M8-85A, UNBOLT mounting flange from tank nozzle.

IE local ID is not M8-85A, UNBOLT pump from mounting flange.

4.2.7 RAISE pump until bowl assembly is even with top tank nozzle l and ALLOW pump to drain.

l 4.2.8 RAISE pump until bowl assembly clears mounting flange or tank nozzle.

4.2.9 IE installed, REMOVE shim.

4.2.10 REMOVE gaskets. l 1

1 4.2.11 COVER opening as necessary to prevent entry of foreign material.

4.2.12 MOVE pump to suitable work area and SET pump horizontally on blocks or pipe stands.

4.3 Pump Disassembly NOTE l Column pipe threads are right hand; shaft threads are left hand.

4.3.14 UNSCREW and REMOVE intermediate shaft from shaft coupling with bottom shaft.

4.3.15 REMOVE shaft coupling from bottom shaft.

4.3.16 UNSCREW and REMOVE intermediate column at column coupling from bottom column.

4.3.17 REMOVE shaft bearing housing and bearing from bottom column.

4.3.18 DISASSEMBLE bottom column from top bowl assembly as follows:

a. UNSCREW and REMOVE column adapter.
b. DISCONNECT bottom shaft at impeller shaft coupling.

4.3.19 DISASSEMBLE each intermediate bowl assembly as follows:

a. UNSCREW and REMOVE intermediate bowl.
b. REMOVE intermediate bowl bearing.
c. REMOVE intermediate bowl impeller nut.
d. Using slide hammer, REMOVE impeller and split-tapered sleeve from intermediate bowl.

4.3.20 UNSCREW and REMOVE last intermediate bowl from suction bowl.

4.3.21 UNSCREW and REMOVE suction bowl bearing.

4.4 Pump Cleaning, Inspection, and Repair NOTE Structural damage and defects include breakage, cracks, deformation, distortion, corrosion, pitting, scoring, scratches, erosion, galling, and indications of misalignment.

4.4.1 INSPECT all components for wear, structural defects, and damage.

4.4.2 1E inspection restdts are not satisfactory, REPAIR or REPLACE applicable' component (s).

i 4.4.3 Using V-blocks and dial indicator, INSPECT each shaft for

( straightness at the following locations:

  • Impeller  ;

1 l l 4.4.4 1E total indicated runout (TIR) is greater than 0.002 inch,  !

REPAIR or REPLACE shaft. l l 2 4.4.5 RECORD as-left TIR values onto AWO. l j NOTE i Under normal circumstances, all bearings will be replaced when a pump overhaul is performed.

4.4.6 MEASURE bearing clearances at each bearmg.  !

. 4.4.7 IE bearing clearance is greater than 0.020 inch for bronze l bearings OR 0.014 inch for graphite bearings, REPLACE  ;

bearings.

4.4.8 MACHINE new bearing to provide a clearance of 0.007 to 0.010 inch for bronze bearings or 0.005 to 0.007 inch for graphite bearings.

4.4.9 RECORD as-left bearing clearances onto AWO. l 4.5 Pump Assembly I NOTE I All gaskets and packing shall be replaced with gaskets fabricated from new material.

a. INSTALL shaft positioning tool on impeller shaft.

f. INSTALL bottom intermediate bowl and bearing.
g. SCREW bottom intermediate bowl to suction bowl. j 4.5.2 ASSEMBLE cach intermediate bowl assembly as follows: )
a. INSTALL next intermediate bowl impeller on impeller shaft.
b. INSTALL intermediate bowl impeller sleeve and nuts.
c. TIGIITEN impeller sleeve and nuts.
d. INSTALL next intermediate bowl and bearing.

'd c. SCREW this intermediate bowl to intermediate bowl (s) and suction bowl assembly.

f. ROTATE shaft and ENSURE free movement.

4.5.3 After top bowl is installed, INSTALL column adapter over impeller shaft and SCREW to top bowl assembly.

4.5.4 CONNECT bottom shaft to impeller shaft with shaft coupling.

4.5.5 INSTALL bottom column to column adapter.

4.5.6 REMOVE shaft positioning tool from impeller shaft.

4.5.7 PLACE column bearing assembly over bottom shaft.

4.5.8 SCREW column bearing assembly into column coupling until bearing assembly butts solidly against column coupling.

4.5.9 CONNECT intermediate shaft to bottom shaft with shaft coupling.

4.5.16 INSTALL top column flange or top column flange with baseplate and discharge head.

column flange and carefully INSTALL discharge head with ,

Packing rings and lantern rings must be installed in the following order:

one packing ring, one lantern ring, three packing rings, one lantern ring, ,

t and three packmg rings. Because of packing ring thickness variations, the mechanic is ,ermitted to alter the packing stackup; however, the final packing stac cup must ensure that the lantern rings are aligned with the stuffing box grease ports.

l 4.6.5 IE applicable, ALIGN shim and mounting flange match marks ,

and INSTALL shim and gaskets. l 4.6.6 Using head section, RAISE pump and POSITION over tank nozzle.

4.6.7 ALIGN match marks and LOWER pump into tank.

4.6.8 BOLT pump to mounting flange or tank nozzle as applicable.

4.6.9 INSTALL discharge piping gasket.

d. CONTINUE turning adjusting nut until drilled holes in )

adjusting nut align with tapped holes in top drive coupling.
