REPLACEMENT OF BERYLLIt'M REFLECTOR AT UNIVERSITY OF MISSOURI

, RESEARCH REACTOR (MURR) ,

Str.eting about October 9,1981 the University of Missouri will re-

, move the existing beryllium reflector of the Research Reactor and in- {

i stall a new one. The replacement and subsequent tasts, measurements, I and calibrations are expected to be completed in less than one week.

The reactor will be returned to full operation following the maintenance j period.

i This reflector replacement does not involve a change in the tech-nical specifications incorporated in the license or an unreviewed safety question as defined in 10CFR50.59, and therefore does not require prior Commission approval. This letter is submitted for information.

make several changes to the plant and perform some mid-life maintenance  :

J'. Miller September 23, 1981 were found which indicate that scue spallation from the surface may have occurred due to radiation-damage, and we have therefore decided to in-stall our spare-reflector now.

We will inform you how the work progresses and will provide addi-tional'information in our next Annual Report.
