Request for extension in time to reply to NRC Inst,ection Report No. 50-186/97201(DRPM) and Notice of Violation

Dear Dr Weiss:

The University of Missouri received on December 16,1997 the NRC Inspection Report No.

50-186/97201(DRPM) and Notice of Violation dated December 11,1997 and pursuant to the provisions of 10 CFR 2.201 is required to submit a written statement of explanation to the NRC Director of Enforcement within 30 days. In a January 5,1998 telephone conversation with Mr. Al Adams, NRC, we requested a two week extension to the reporting requirement for the Notice of Violation until January 25,1998. Mr. Adams called back January 7,1997 and informed us that the NRC has granted the two week extension.

This letter is to document this understanding. Your granting of this request is greatly
