SUBJECT:

Submittal required by 10CFR50.64(c)(2) with respect to Federal Funding for conversion.

The University of Missouri Research Reactor (MURR) has applied for a unique purpose exemption pursuant to 10CFR50.64(c)(1) in a letter dated September 26, 1986. This application is currently under review by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC). The NRC requested additional info,'-

mation in support of the unique purpose exemptinn by a letter dated December 30, 1986. The additional information was sent to the NRC in a letter dated February 27, 1987.

Since this review process may extend past March 27, 1988, the University of Missouri Research Reactor is complying with 10CFR50.64(c)(2) by sub-mitting a copy of the Department of Energy letter received March 17, 1988, notifying the licensee that Federal Funds for conversion of our reactor will not be available during Fiscal Year 1988.

This suDnittal and attachment constitutes MURR's response for Fiscal Year 1988. The MURR will respond again prior to March 27,1989 as per 10CFR50.64(c)(2), unless a determination is made by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission that our facility should be granted a unique purpose exemption as per 10CFR50.64(c)(1).
