Dear Dr. Weiss:

I want to thank you for your part in having the University of Missouri-Columbia be Commissioner Dicus' first University Licensee visit. We are honored to be in this role and value greatly the opportunity to showcase our unique resource, the MU Research Reactor, along with the variety of first class research, education and service conducted at MU that utilize radioactive materials. The Commissioners visit facilitates an open exchange between the University and the NRC on how we can continue to make a significant contribution to the nation's nuclear related research and development while protecting the health and safety of the public.

I appreciated hearing you state that MU Research Reactor Center is the top university research reactor in the United States. I hope the Commissioners tour of MURR and her interaction with faculty, research and operations staff conveyed a sense of the diverse and important work we are doing. As I told Commissioner Dicus, we realize the importance of MURR as a national resource and take our stewardship of this resource seriously. I appreciated, too, the comments you and other NRC staff members made concerning the reactor. I see our lines of communication with the NRC promoted in this visit being utilized as we develop the University's plan for continued improvement and growth for MURR.

Please extend my thanks to your colleagues. We value the opportunity to meet and work with all of you. If I or any of my staff can be of further assistance to you, please do not hesitate to call on us.

Sincerely, p@ l Richard L. Wallace Interim Chancellor RL'N/lc
