February 27, 1980 Trojan Nuclear Plant Docket 50-344 License NPF-1 Mr. R. H. Engelken, Director U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Region V Suite 202, Walnut Creek Plaza 1990 N. California Blvd.

Walnut Creek, CA 94596

Dear Sir:

In my letter of October 30, 1979 regarding IE Bulletin 79-14, I stated that computer input verification required by that Bulletin would be reported af ter the Plant's next refueling.

During the December 1979 hearings before the Atomic Safety and Licensing Board for the Trojan Control Building, Licensee's representatives esti-mated that such erification for all piping in the Control-Auxiliary-Fuel Building Complex (Complex) would be completed by the end of January 1980 (Tr. 3382-83).

It is now evident that such date underestimated the amount of work involved and also did not take into account the fact that assembly and transmittal of the IEB 79-14 field walkdown data to Bechtel for the computer input verification had been delayed by the extensive walkdown and analysis activities related to the LER 79-15 " wall problem".

In light of our commitment to supply such information with respect to the Complex to the parties in the Control Building proceeding (see Tr. 3378-79), we intend to complete and report the results of the verification for piping within the Complex prior to the inspection of

Eight items out of approximately 500 reviewed have been identified as requiring modifica-tion. None of these eight items affect Plant operability. We now estimate that the results of the total verification for the Complex will be available approximately the week of April 14.

Sincerely, 1
