Dear Brian:

This letter confirms comments given to Steve Chestnut'en May 26 in response to ycur letter of request, dated May 18, 1981. These comments are a consolidation from FEMA Region'III, the Of fice of Public Affairs and this i Office..

In ' general, we find the material for response activitics around Three-Mile Island acceptable under the NRC/ FEMA criteria. The brochures are a little

[ t

weak .on public education, but will adequately serve 'the purpose of response

' information. We find the material acceptable only if the State brochure L is part of the county brochure for each-affected-county.

'Iff the. information package l's to be revised, we suggest the following:

1) More educational material on radiation an' d the reasons for response actions would be useful.
2) The. definitions of radiation terminology are a bit vague and could be. improved.

F 3)' The' material should deal with transients, even if briefly.

4) There is need 'for identifying authoritative sources of public

-information during an incident.

5) Mention should be made of periodic tests of the alert and notification system to avoid confusion.
6) -The print is too small for people with poor vision in a real e

accident sir.gation.

l Sincerely yours, r
