l Docket No. 50-312 Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station License No. DPR-54 REACTOR BUILDING HOSE STATION UPGRADE Attention: George Knighton The District, in a continuing effort to upgrade fire protection at Rancho Seco, plans to modify the Reactor Building fire hose standpipe system. This modification will greatly enhance manual fire fighting capabilities in the Reactor Building. As stated in the NRC's Branch Technical Position 9.5-1, Licensees are not required to have a hose standpipe system in containment which is attached to the fire main loop. The District committed in previous submittals to supply the Reactor Building fire hose connections from the miscellaneous water system. This system, with the proposed modifications to improve system pressure and flow, will continue to be used.

The District prioritizes and schedules plant and program betterments and NRC mandated changes in accordance with District procedure RSAP-1401 "Long Range Schedule (LRS) Program." This program provides guidelines for the allocation of available financial and manpower resources to accomplish identified tasks in an efficient manner. The Long Range Review Group sets priority of items based on impact on plant safety and NRC requirements and commitments, as well as effect on plant reliability and availability. The District has currently scheduled the Reactor Building hose station modification for completion during the Cycle 8 refueling outage. This schedule is subject to change based on the LRS process.
