Allegations of Inadequate Quality Assurance and Falsification of Welding Records Based upon allegaticn: b7 en employee of Stone and Webster Engineering _

Corp., the Office of Inspection and Enforement, has sent a team of four inspectors to the North Anna construction site. The site investi-gation, initi,ated on August 26, 1976, will include the examination of records, the inspection of welds in certain piping systems and in,ter-views with plant workers.

I The allegations were made to members of the Advisory Committee on Reactor Safeguards and included statements of inadequate quality. ...

I Media interest is expected since a Washington Post reporter was in-i strumental in bringing the allegations to the attention of the ACRS and NRC. At least one other newspaper is reported to have been in-

! formed of the allegations at this time. The Washington Post reporter has indicated that a series of news articles about the allegations may

be forthcoming. It is reported that the alleger has been in contact I with Congressional Staff personnel regarding his allegations. PA has prepared a proposed response to press inquiries.- .. .. _. 3 Additional Information -
