NRC STAFF AUTHORIZES LIMITED STARTUP 0F NORTH ANNA UNIT 1 l The NRC staff has authorized startup and operation limited to 50 percent power for North Anna Unit 1, down since July 15, 1987 following a steam generator tube rupture. A Confirmation of Action Letter (CAL) was issued following the event requiring NRC concurrence. prior to restart of the plant.
On October 9, the CAL was revised to allow 50 percent operation, and the Unit was on line at 1:00 a.m. (EDT) today (October 13). The Unit was up to 30 percent power as of 8:00 a.m.
(EDT).
Initial reports following restart indicated no evidence of steam generator tube leakage.
Unis. 2 is shut down for refueling.
Region 11 notified news media of the authorization on October 9.
