Division of PWR Licensing-B U S Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington D C 20555 Docket 50-312 Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station Unit #1 GENERIC LEITER 83-28, ITEM 2.2 EQUIPMENT CLASSIFICATION AND VENDOR INTERFACES

Dear Mr. Miraglia:

In a telephone conversation, Mr. Syd Miner of your staff requested additional information to complete the review of Item 2.2 of Generic letter 83-28.

Specifically, Mr. Miner suggested the District describe its interface program with B&W and to identify the positive feedback system.

The District's Administrative Procedure AP.46, " Control of Vendor Technical Manuals" applies to all vendors including B&W. The procedure requires that vendor technical documents be reviewed, approved (if necessary) and distributed in a controlled manner. The scope of the procedure includes documents such as service and technical bulletins provided by vendors and suppliers of safety related equipment. These documents are reviewed for applicability to equipment as well as surveillance, test and maintenance procedures. To ensure that all information is received, the procedure requires that biennially, a listing of documents received by the plant is sent to each vendor or supplier for confirmation that all applicable information has been received. This interface and vendor confirmation provides positive feedback with all vendors and suppliers including B&W.

If you have any questions, please contact Robert Roehler of my staff.

Sincere y,
