Dear Mr. Engelken:

The District received on December 17, 1979, a mailgram from Allis-Chalmers stating closing prcblems for the Ranche Seco Unit 1 Reactor Building Purge Valves following a LOCA. The Plant Review Connittee en January 7, 1930, after review of the letter, declared this potential problem to be reportable to the NRC.

Until this problem is resolved, the Purge Valves will not be opened during power operation. A ce= plate report and corrective actions i will be forwarded to your of fice within 14 days. Our Resident Inspector,  ;
