l l Docket No. 50-312 Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station License No. DPR-54 SUPPLEMENT TO SPECIAL 4EPORT NUMBER 88-07: INOPERABLE DELUGE SYSTEM 1

Dear Mr. Martin:

On April 11, 1988, the Sacramento Municipal Utility District submitted Special Report Number 88-07. The report dealt with Fire Zone 110 Hater -

Deluge System which protects the Auxiliary Feedwater (AFH) pump area. In the report the District comitted to perform deluge system spray tests of the AFH pump motors.

Since this commitment was made, the fire system has been changed from a deluge system to a spray type system. This change was made to limit the spray from the deluge system onto the AFH pump motors. The open head deluge type sprinklers which direct the spray ento the motors were replaced with closed head fusible link sprinklers. Because of the fusible links. l the AFH pump motors will only be sprayed during an actual fire situation.  !

The shrouding on the motor vents was modified for additional protection against water spray. This will allow the existing system to satisfy i Appendix R requirements. These modifications were completed and the i system returned to service on August 6, 1988.

Please contact me if you have any questions. Members of your staff with questions requiring additional information or clarification may contact Mr. Kurt Zimmermann at (916) 452-3211, extension 4627. 1 Sincerely, QM 8809070557 esosa3 DR ADOCK 05000312 m
