SPECIAL REPORT NUMBER 89-08 Fire Barrier Breached More Than 7 Days Date of Occurrence

Identification of Occurrence

' Fi re rier door AU 109 was not restored to operable status within the 7 days requbed by the Rancho Seco Technical Specifications.

Description of Occurrence On March 3,1989, security personnel identified that the closure device for fire barrier door AU 109 was not closing the door completely. Work Request 155418 was . initiated to repair the fire barrier door in accordance with Maintenance Procedure M.100 " Fire Barrier Door Maintenance." A delay in processing the Work Request through the maintenance work planning group

. contributed to the fire barrier door not being restored to operable status I within the required 7 days.

Corrective Action iaken An hourly firewatch was previously posted in the area and satisfied the-Technical Specification 3.14.6 requirement for the deficiency. The fire barrier door was restored to operable status on March 17, 1989. Fire barrier related Hork Requests are now being reviewed in the manager's daily plant status meetings. This review is designed to expedite the completion of the Work Requests.
