In accordance with 10CFR Part 50.64 (C.2), and on behalf of the Georgia Institute of Technology, I hereby notify the U.S.N.R.C.

that federal' funding is not available'for converting the GTRR fuel from high to low enrichment. The Department of Energy has withdrawn its offer to initiate conversion.because Georgia Tech is currently evaluating whether or not reactor operations will be continued in'the future. ,

Dear Dr. Karam:

In view of the uncertainty of continued operation of the Georgia Institute of Technology Nuclear Reactor, this letter is to inform you that the notification of availability of funding during Fiscal Year 1988 and the request for proposal to initiate conversion of the reactor from HEU to LEU fuel,

-transmitted via a February 4, 1988, letter from this office, is hereby withdrawn.

It is requested thac you inform us as soon as possible after a decision has been made by the Institute' relative to the future of the reactor so that in the event reactor operation is to continue, the request for proposal can be reinstated and conversion of the reactor can be initiated in a timely manner.
