e Docket No. 50-160 Georgia Tech Research Reactor Decommissioning Program Monthly Status Report - October 1997 A. General L OT*'.R remains under a safe shutdown condition. The reactor facility is in compliance with its license conditions and current technical specifications (10CFR50.51(b))

B. Activities for the Month

1. The Site Characterization Plan was completed and app, ; .d.
2. The radiological and hazardous characterization of the GTRR was performed commencing on October 6 and completing on October 24,1997.
3. The GTRR received a routine inspection by Region 2, USNRC, commencing on October 27,1997.

C. Plannei Activities

1. Respond to the USNRC's request for additional information on our application for possession only license. (Response was mailed November 6,1997)
2. Prepare the radiological and hazardous characterization report and cost estimate for the decommissioning project.
3. Ship the heavy water back to DOE, Aiken, SC. This activity is now scheduled to take place in late February 1998.
