ERROR IN IX, TUBES i An error was' discovered in the properties for the torsional con-stant, I X ,' for structural tubes in the "AISCTUBE" and " TUBE 80" s tee l tables. Attached are tables which tabulate the NEW (correct) and OLD (incorrect) IX properties for the structural tube profiles in'the "AISCTUBE" and " TUBE 80" tables. The error significantly influenced the IX properties for the smaller tube profiles. This error could cause a redistribution of force within structural models which require IX,such as space frames. Dynamic analysis frequencies, mode shapes and forces could also change as a result of a change in stiffness-in the structure due to an incorrect IX.
Designs using these tubes could also be affected due to the change in force distribution. Also, the IX property is used in the computation of warping stresses in the NF1'7 steel code (section 2.2.5.10.5.4'of the
, GTSTRUDL User's Manual).
We consider this error to be serious since analysis and design results may be affected. We are in the process of correcting the l STRUDAT file which contains these properties. In the meantime, users may create their own tables.to evaluate the' significance of this errrr. ,
' Should users wish. to create their own tables and use the corrected IX !
properties, we urge them ' to contact their GTSTRUDL Technical Support representative.
