l PERIODIC STATUS REPORT-JULY AND AUGUST 1999 Docket No. 50-160 j Georgia Tech Research Reactor (GTRR) Decommissioning Program September 3,1999 A. General The GTRR remains under a safe shutdown condition. The reactor facility is k' compliance with its license l conditions and current technical specifications (10CFR50.51(b)). l I
B. Activities for the months of July and August 1999 l
- 1. We are in receipt of Amendment No.14 to Facility Operating License No. R-97, Georgia Institute of Technology, that authorizes decommissioning of the Georgia Tech Research Reactor in accordance with the decommissioning plan.
- 2. On 10 August 1999 the decommissioning project team met at Georgia Tech with Mr. Marvin M.
Mendonca ar.d Mr. Craig II. Bassett of USNRC to review the decommissioning project.
- 3. On 11 August 1999 the decommissioning project team met at Georgia Tech with Mr. Tadd Marsh and Mr. John Lyons of USNRC to review the decommissioning project.
- 4. On 12 August 1999 the State of Georgia issued Notice to Proceed (NTP) to International Technologies Corporation /GTS Duratek for Project I Decommissioning of the Georgia Tech Research Reactor.
- 5. Bi-weekly meetings have been initiated with the decommissioning contractor as plan and procedure submittals are received for review and approval. The Technical Safety Review Committee is meeting on a bi-weekly schedule to effect approval action on the contractor's procedures & plans.
- 6. 'Ihe current overall project schedule (OPS) has been received from the decommissioning contractor and is attached for your information.
C. Planned Activities in September 1999.
- 1. Continue review and approval of the decommissioning contractor's procedure and plan submittals.
- 2. Initiate a project to relocate the campus radiological waste storage area (the " barn") to a new location outside of the decommissioning project limits.
