Docket Nos. 50-352 and 50-353 Gentlemen:

l The Licensing Board's Second Special Prehearing Conference Order (LBP-83-39) admitted Limerick Ecology Action's Contention I-33M relating to the schedule for modification of the automatic depressurization system (ADS) logic to eliminate the need for manual actuation to assure adequate core cooling. The Applicant had originally planned

to make the required modification for Unit 1 at the first
refueling outage.

i As detailed in the attached letter from Mr. John S.

!' Kemper to Mr. A. Schwencer, a detailed review of this

modification has allowed the Applicant to commit to make this change on Unit 1 prior to fuel load with no change in the August 1984 fuel load date. A draft page change to the 8308120124 830810 PDR ADOCK 05000352 9 PDR

NUREG-0737, Item II.K.3.IS, " Modification of Automatic Depressurization Sys tem Logic"

Reference:

J. S. Kemper to A. Schwencer letter dated June 20, 1983 File: GOVT l-1 (NRC)

Dear Mr. Schwencer:

In the reference letter we described our proposed resolution to TMI Item II.K.3.18 in which we committed to implement option 4 of the BWR Owners' Group Generic Response to NUREG-0737 with implementation to be completed by the first refueling outage after fuel load. However, a more recent and detailed review o f this modification has revealed that this change can be made on Unit I prior to fuel load with no change in our August, 1984 fuel load date.

The attached revised draft FSAR page change to TMI Item II.K.3.18 will be incorporated into the FSAR, exactly as it appears on the attachment, in the revision scheduled for September, 1983.

, , . . S The BWR Owners Group has submitted a report in NEDO-24951 to the I NRC in which they propose five options to address this concern.

Limerick will take steps to make the required modifications to the ADS logic when the NRC rules on the acceptability of the proposed options. This modification will be implemented during J
