Subject:

Limerick Generating Station, Units 1 and 2 Status Update on the implementation of Thermo-Lag Corredive Adions Related to Confirmatory Order

Reference:

Letter dated April 12,1999, Joseph J. Hagan (PECO) to USNRC,

  • Limerick Generating Station Units 1 and 2, Request for Change to Confirmatory Order" Gentlemen:

In accordance with our commitment in the reference letter, the purpose of this letter is to provide a status update of the Thermo-Lag 330-1 fire barrier corrective actions. All of the Thermo-Lag 330-1 fire barrier corrective actions comrreted to being completed by the end of the April 1999 refueling outage for Limerick Unit 2 will be completed prior to start-up.

Additionally, on May 14,1999, we completed the transition to our revised Fire Safe Shutdown Program. Corrective actions continue for the eight (8) previously identified Fire Areas (i.e., Fire Areas 2,25,44,45,47,67,68, and 70).

While confirming the completion of these corrective actions, an administrative ambiguity within the above referenced correspondence was identified. The ambiguity involves the unintentional int 6rchange of the terms " fire analysis areas" and " Fire Areas" which has resulted in miscounting the scheduled completed corrective actions. Irrespective of the accounting method used, the only remaining corrective actions are limited to the eight (8) previously j identified Fire Areas. This is fully consistent with the information provided to the NRC staff in the telephone conference held on April 13,1999, and does not constitute a reduction in the scope of physical work committed to be completed by the end of the outage or any change in the associated fire risk.

Should you need additional information or have any questions regarding the information f y

contained in this letter, please contact Mr. Garrett Edwards, of my staff, at (610) 640-6761.

Sincerely. -
