Dear Mr. Reid:

On October 17, 1978, the District provided you with specific design details for the construction of cable tray fire stops in the reactor building. Your December 14, 1978 letter to the District approved the design. Due to installation problems, the District modified the design.

• The modification was to extend the marinite board on the bottom of the tray 3 inches from the center of the fire stop instead of five inches as indi-cated in our October 17, 1978 letter. Attached Figures One &Two indicate the modifications. The modification does not affect the ability of the fire stop to perform its function. No other changes in the design described in our October 17, 1978 letter have been made.

The NRC resident inspector will not accept the present design of the fire stop until your approval is received. The District is committed to have all fire stops installed and approved by the end of the refueling outage. To prevent any delay in plant start-up, please review and approve the modified design by March 13, 1980.
