Dear Mr. Grier:

This letter is submitted in response to the subject IE 1 Bulletin for the GNUPPS Utilities, Kansas Gas and Electric l Company and Union Electric Company. l Mercury-wetted relays are not used in matrix logic ap-plication in the SNUPPS reactor trip circuitry. The only application of mercury-wetted relays in SNUPPS reactor

, trip circuitry is in the Westinghouse 7300 protection system equipment. These relays are hermetically sealed and are used for temperature channel test inputs from resistor thermal . devices ; the relays are not used in scram circuits. Therefore, no response is required to items 2 and 3 of the Bulletin. Approximately 30 man-hours were expended in the conduct of the review required by this Bulletin.
