SUBJECT:

SAFETY INJECTION DURING LOSS OF SITE POWER TEST 4

During testing on November 23 that involved the loss'of offsite power from 30%

, power, an unanticipated safety injection occurred. The Region II resident inspector ]

j was present in the control room during the event. The test progressed normally.for six minutes before initiation of safety injection. All_ safety equipment functioned as designed and adequate pressurizer level and pressure were maintained. The safeguards actuation signal could not be reset from the control room and had to be reset locally. The test-also identified two centrifugal charging pumps which could .

j not be shut'down from the control room. Preliminary indications are_that the l failure of an inverter may have caused the initiation of safety injection.
