PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION August 30, 1976 PRELIMINARY NOTIFICATION OF EVENT CR UNUSUAL OCCURRENCE-PNO-76-149 This preliminary notification con <stitutes EARLY notice of an event of POSSIBLE safety or public interest significance. The information presented is as initially received without verification or evaluation and is basically all that is known by IE staff on this date.

Subject:
TRANSPORTATION ACCIDENT INVOLVING URANIUM A Leeway Motor Freight truck and trailer hauling 75 drums of yellowcake (uranium) from Utah International, Wyoming, to Kerr-McGee's Sequoyah Plant at Gore, Oklahoma, overturned near Wotanga, Oklahoma, at approximately 10:30 p.m. on August 27, 1976. A portion of one barrel of uranium was spilled inside the trailer. This material was recovered and the trailer was decontaminated by personnel from Kerr-McGee's UF6 plant.
Personnel from the State Health Department assisted in the decontamination of the trailer. There were no fatalities and no contamination to the environment.
i A report of the accident was carried in news stories by Oklahoma City j
papers and the articles kept the report of radioactive material being involved in proper perspective. The trailer and material are currently at the Sequoyah Plant.
Department of Transportation was notified at approximately 9:00 a.m. 8/30/76.
Region IV duty officer received notification of the accident, by telephone, at 10:15 a.m., August 28, 1976, from an official from Kerr-McGee.
