Dear Mr. Denton:

As described in References 2 and 3 the SNUPPS Utilities contracted with the Alden Research Laboratory for hydraulic model testing 'of the containment recirculation sunps, in lieu of site testing as discussed in Reference 1. This testing has now been completed and a copy of the final

" test report is attached for-your information.

A design change .has been made as a result of the testing. Vortex sup-pression was determined to be necessary and a suitable device, a hor.izontal grating, was designed and tested. As the results indicate, the sunps as now designed have satisfactory hydraulic performance under the design conditions of restricted flow and partial screen blockages.
