HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION

. DOCKET NO. 50-354 UNIT NO. 1 SPECIAL REPORT 89-001-1

.On February 22, 1989, Triaxial Time-History Accelerograph SG-VE-7871 was declared inoperable.to perform an'18 month surveillance. procedure.

This seismic monitoring instrument'is located in thel station yard area 500 feet from the Reactor Building, 60 feet below grade. During the course of the surveillance, it was determined that the accelerograph vertical sensor was not functioning properly and required replacement.

The required spare part was 'not immediately available, and'thus, the accelerograph was inoperable.until repaired on 3/30/89.

This Special Report is submitted pursuant to the requirements of-f Technical Specification 3.3.7.2, which requires that any' inoperable seismic monitoring channels be returned to an operable status within 30 days, and if not, submit a special report within the following ten days detailing the' circumstances surrounding the inoperability.
