Dear Sir:
HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION DOCKET NO. S0-354 UNIT NO. 1 SPECIAL REPORT 88-003-00 On July 14,
- 1388, the Core Spray r.ystem seismic monitor (SG-VE-7863) was declared inoperar.e after failing a
semi-annual channel functional test.
Technical Specification 3.3.7.2 requires that any inoperable seismic monitoring channels be returned to an operable status. within 30 days, and if not, submit a special report within the follcwing 10 days detailing the circumstances surrounding the inoperability.
As of August 13, the channel was still inoperable.
Troublechooting by the station maintenance department determined that the monitor longitudinal accelorometer is sticking and the transverse accelorometer is stuck in its natural frequency.
Due to the location of the inoperable monitor (inside the drywell, mounted on "A" Core Spray line),
replacement of the monitor is not possible during power operation.
A replacement mcnitor is on
- hand, and the inoperable monitor will be replaced during the next plant outage (forced or scheduled) requiring access to the drywell.
Sincerely, d
& *10--~~
