Dear Sir:

Hope Creek Generating Station Locket No. 50-354 Unit No. 1 Special Report 95-02 This Special Report is being submitted pursuant to the requirements of Hope Creek Technical Specification 3.3.7.2 -

Action a, due to one seismic monitoring instrument channel being inoperable for more than 30 days.

On 2/23/95, the Free Field, 60' below grade seismic sensor failed due to vibrations induced from road work being performed in support of on-site construction.

Due to the likelihood a new sensor would ultimately fail while construction activities are ongoing, it was decided not to restore the Free Field sensor until completion of the road work currently scheduled for 4/14/95.

All remaining seismic monitorilig channels are operable and have not been affected by the road work.

Instruments and Controls department personnel are prepared to replace the sensor when the road work is completed.

Sincerely,

_L R.J. Hovey General Manager -
