Washington, DC 20555
Dear Sir:
Hope Creek Generating Station Docket No. 50-354 Unit No. 1 Special Report 95-01 This Special Report is being submitted pursuant to the requirements of Hope Creek Technical Specification 3.3.7.9 -
action a, due to the Loose-Part Detection System being inoperable for more than 30 days.
On 12/12/94, during performance of a routine functional test of the Loose-Part detection system, it was determined that the tape recorder associated with the system was malfunctioning.
The recorder tape transport was broken and parts were not available to initiate repairs on-site.
The recorder was shipped to the manufacturer for repairs with an expected return date of 1/27/95.
The failure was limited to the recorder and all 12 detection channels are operabla.
The failure was attributed to aging of the recorder's tape transport system.
Due to the age of the recorder, parts are no longer readily available for on-site rapair.
The detection channels are in service and will alarm in the Main Control Room, to alert Operators, if a loose part is detected.
Sincerely,
)
