DOCKET NO.: 51 354 UNIT: Hope Creek DATE: 07/15/98 COMPLETED BY: R. Ritzman TELEPHONE: (609) 339-1445 Summary Of Monthly Operating Experience

. Hope Creek entered the month of June at approximately 100% reactor power.

. Reactor power was reduced on June 28 for turbine valve testing. Reactor power was returned to 100% later that day.

  • At the end of the month, Hope Creek had completed its 199th consecutive day of continuous power operation.

SUMMARY

OF CHANGES, TESTS, AND EXPERIMENTS FOR THE HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION MONTH JUNE 1998 j The following items completed during June 1998 have been evaluated to determine:

I

1. If the probability of occurrence or the consequences of an accident or m:?lfunction of )

equipment important to safety previously evaluated in the safety analysis report may be increased; or

' 2. If a possibility for an accident or malfunction of a different type than any evaluated previously in the safety analysis report may be created; or i 1

3. If the margin of safety as defined in the basis for any technical specification is reduced.

The 10CFR50.59 Safety Evaluations showed that these items did not create a new safety hazard to the plant nor did they affect the safe shutdown of the reactor. These items did not change the plant effluent releases and did not alter the existing environmental impact. The 10CFR50.59 Safety Evaluations determined that no unreviewed safety or environmental questions are involved.

Design Changes Summary of Safety Evaluations 4HE-0258, Package 3, Channel "A" Station Service Water Strainer Small Bore Drain' Line Piping Replacement. This design change replaced the one and two inch piping associated with the "A" Station Service Water Strainer Drain. The piping was cement lined carbon steel piping, and was replaced with 6% molybdenum austenitic stainless steel piping.

l E.'_______.___________.__._____

This design change did not impact the anticipated operational transients or postulated design basis accidents applicable to the Service Water system. It did not impact the

. capability of the Service Water system to automatically actuate, or to perform its design

. functions during operational transients or postulated design basis accidents. This design change did not increase the probability or consequences of a malfunction of equipment important to safety, create the possibility of an accident or malfunction of a

- different type than previously evaluated in the SAR, or reduce the margin of safety for any Technical Specifications. Therefore, there are no unreviewed safety questions associated with this design change.

Temporary Modifications Summary of Safety Evaluations L TMR 98 013, Turbine Building High Conductivity Sump Pump Temporary

+

Modification. This temporary modification installed a temporary chemical-resistant air

' driven pump, pump suction hose, and pump discharge hose in the Turbine Building.

This temporary sump pump was installed until the normal sump pumps could be repaired.

Neither the installation, operation, removal, nor failure of the temporary sump pump will inhibit any component or structure required for safe shutdown from perforraing its design function. There are no anticipated operational transients or postulated design basis accidents applicable to this proposal. This temporary modification did not increase the probability or consequences of a malfunction of equipment important to safety, create the possibility of an accident or malfunction of a different type than previously evaluated in the SAR, or reduce the margin of safety for any Technical Specifications. Therefore, there are no unreviewed safety questions associated with

' this temporary modification.

Procedures Summary of Safety Evaluations There were no reportable changes in this category implemented during June 1998.

UFSAR Change Notices Summary of Safety Evaluations There were no reportable changes in this category implemented during June 1998.

Deficiency Reports Summary of Safety Evaluations There were no reportable changes in this category implemented during June 1998.
