April 22, 1979 TO: Ben Ruscne Tne results from Nuclear Consulting Services (L. Kovach) show that t,e charcoal adsorbers te be used in U-1 replacement have an effi:ien:v o' 03% eor CH3 1. This is much lower than that required by Reculatory Guide 1.52 for ESF systems of 99%. Kova h recommends that the adsorbers ce tru:Lec to Columbus wnere he cer. treat them with TETA, dry them in his ovens anc return them to TMI. This imoregnation could result in an e"i:iency o' 95-99% f or CHyl. If time permits I would strongly reenmmenc that you have these treated.
