BOUNDING ANALYSIS (TAC NO. 72174)
By letter dated January 1,1990, GPU Nuclear Corporation responded to Item 1.b of NRC Bulletin No. 88 11. " Pressurizer Surge Line Thermal Stratification."
I The letter stated that a bounding analysis (BAW-2085) was performed by the Babcock & Wilcox Owners Group (B&WOG).
The analysis stated that the integrity i
of the Pressurizer Surge Line (PSL) was adequate to justify continued operation i
of the facility for several years.
The staff has completed its review of the B&WOG bounding analysis and_ finds that sufficient information has been provided to justify continued plant i
operation until Three Mile Island Unit I completes its final resort in accordance with the schedule delineated by the Bulletin. However, issues inve been identified that need to be resolved before the staff can conclude that the PSL l
meets all appropriate Code limits for 40. year plant life. A copy of the evaluation which was sent to the B&WOG is enclosed for your_ information, i
