Subject: Inspection Report No. 50-289/89-17 This refers to the reactive inspection conducted by Dr. Jason C. Jang of this office on August 15-16 1989 of activities authorized by NRC License No.
DPR-50 at the Three Mile Island Nuclear Station, Unit 1 and to the discussions of our findings held by Dr. Jang with Mr. R. Shaw and other members of your staff at the conclusion of the inspection, and to a subsequent telephone discussion between Drs. Bores and Jang of'this office with Mr. Hae.sler and other members of your staff on September 7, 1989.
Areas examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I Inspection Report, which is enclosed with this letter. The inspection consisted of an examination of corrective actions for the unresolved item relative to representative' iodine sampling identified during a previous inspection conducted in November, 1988 (50-289/88-30). One portion of that item remains unresolved and you are requested to review that portion and respond within 30 days of the date of this letter on actions planned.
