By letter dated April 19, 1993, you requested relief from American Society of  !

Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Code,Section XI, Class 2 requirements to remove l all of the bolting from a flanged joint for visual examination because the flanged joint leaked during a hydrostatic test. The code of record is the 1986 Edition of the ASME Code. The 1989 Edition of the ASME Code requires that only one bolt must be removed and visually enmined from a flanged joint that leaks during a hydrostatic test. Based on the discussion provided in your submittal, the staff approves the use of a portion of the 1989 Edition of j ASME Code, IWA-5250(a)(2) until the end of the current fuel cycle, according 1 to the provisions of the Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) l 50.55(a)(g)(4)(iv).

The staff's Safety Evaluation is enclosed.

The staff considers this matter resolved and is closing out TAC No. M86312.
