Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2 File L-860.0/L-952.0/M-001.0 Section XI Repair Program Capping of Control Rod Drive Return Line No::le AECM-80/178 Please find attached a copy of a field instruction (FDI-35/42382, Rev. 0 & Rev. 1) received from GE related to the capping of the Control Rod Drive Return Line Nozzle. Field construction activities are expected to begin during August of 1980, to implement this program which will be performed as a section XI repair. The program is being submitted to you per Article IWA-4230 of Section XI of the ASME Code which requires that repair procedures be subject to review by enforcement authorities.
The removal of the CRD return line to prevent no::le cracking is addressed in NUREG-0619 and has been the subject of discussion between GE and the NRC since the discovery of cracking in 1977.
