SUMMARY

OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL HELD ON NOVEMBER 12, 2009, BETWEEN THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION AND PSEG NUCLEAR, LLC, CONCERNING DRAFT REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION PERTAINING TO THE SALEM GENERATING STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of PSEG Nuclear, LLC (the applicant), Exelon and Westinghouse held a telephone conference call on November 12, 2009, to discuss and clarify the staffs draft requests for additional information (D-RAIs) concerning the Salem Generating Station, license renewal application. The telephone conference call was useful in clarifying the intent of the staffs D-RAIs. provides a listing of the participants and Enclosure 2 contains a listing of the D-RAIs discussed with the applicant, including a brief description on the status of the items.

The applicant had an opportunity to comment on this summary.

DRAFT REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION SALEM GENERATING STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION NOVEMBER 12, 2009 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of PSEG Nuclear, LLC held a telephone conference call on November 12, 2009, to discuss and clarify the following draft requests for additional information (D-RAIs) concerning the Salem Generating Station, Unit 1 and 2 license renewal application (LRA).

D-RA4.2.1-1 PSEG states, "predicted 60-year Salem vessel fluence values satisfy the requirements set forth in Regulator (sic) Guide 1.190" Please address more specifically how the fluence values satisfy the regulatory intent of RG 1.190:

(a) Has information supporting the fluence calculations supporting this LRA been submitted to the NRC previously? If so, please provide a reference.

(b) If not, please provide additional information to support a conclusion that the fluence values adhere to RG 1.190 guidance. Describe the calculational technique, its uncertainty, and its qualification.

Discussion:

The applicant stated that previous fluence calculations had not been submitted to the NRC.

Support for the conclusion was based on the information contained in the Westinghouse document WCAP-14040-NP-A, Revision 4 and WCAP-16083-NP-A, Revision 0. The staff agreed that the referenced WCAP would describe the needed information. No additional information concerning this item is required at this time.
