SUMMARY
OF AUGUST 20, 2024, PRE-PLANNING PUBLIC MEETING WITH PSEG NUCLEAR LLC TO DISCUSS FUTURE AMENDMENTS IN SUPPORT OF STRETCH POWER UPRATE (EPID L-2024-LRM-0085)
On August 20, 2024, a hybrid observation public meeting was held between the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) staff and representatives of PSEG Nuclear LLC (PSEG or the licensee). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss PSEGs plan to submit various license amendments in support for a future Salem Nuclear Generating Station, Unit Nos. 1 and 2 (Salem) Measurement Uncertainty Recapture (MUR) uprate and Stretch Power Uprate (SPU). The meeting notice and agenda, dated August 2, 2024, are available in the Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) at Accession No. ML24215A318. A list of attendees is enclosed.
The licensee presented information from the slides contained in ML24220A100 to provide overview of the Salem SPU.
PSEG discussed the sequential and concurrent licensing submittals supporting Salem SPU and preliminary integrated schedule. PSEG intends to submit the Data Validation and Reconciliation (DVR) methodology to reestablish the current Salem MUR in the 4th quarter of calendar year 2025. PSEG noted that Salem will be the first site to request the use of DVR methodology as part of their licensing basis for the MUR. PSEG intends to submit an SPU amendment in early 2027. The NRC staff highlighted the importance of potential pre-submittal meetings for the spent fuel pool criticality analysis and the DVR methodology amendments to incorporate any feedback provided by the NRC staff.
Also, the NRC staff stated that any licensing submittals in support of the Salem SPU must not be linked, and approved prior to the Salem SPU submittal.
There were no comments from members of the public. No public meeting feedback forms were received.
