Grcnd Gulf Nuclear Station Unit 1 Docket No. 50-416 License No. NPF-29 FSAR Update Revision 3 AECH-88/0235 Pursuant to 10 CFR 50.71(e), System Energy Resources, Inc. (SERI) hereby submits one signed original and ten copies of its updated Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR), Revision 3, for the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS),

Unit 1.

This submittal revises the updated FSAR to include charges required in accordance with 10 CFR 50.71(e) up to June 1, 1988. Identification of those changes implemented under the provisions of 10 CFR 50.59 for the 12 month period up to June 1,1988 were submitted to the Comission under separate cover letters ( AECM-88/0030, AECM-88/0117 andAECM-88/0173). Those changes j implemented under the provisions of 10 CFR 50.59 on June 1,1988 or af ter '

(which were performed for FSAR changes included in Updated Revision 3) are listed in AFCM-88/0173 and will be reported in the next scheduled 50.59 sumary report submittal. l An overview of key changes in Revision 3 of the FSAR Update includes:

1) Appropriate revisions to the FSAR text to reflect the changes made ,

to meet the requirements of 10 CFR 50.62 including the addition of the alternate rod insertion system, modifications to the recirculation i r pump trip system, and modifications to the standby liquid control l system. i

2) Appropriate revisions to the FSAR text to incorporate the fire protection Technical Specifications into the FSAR. This is necessary for making appropriate changes to the fire protection Technical Specifications and revising License Condition 2.C(23) consistent with the initiatives and guidance in NRC Generic letters 86-10 and 88-12.

3) Addition of the PSRC/SRC membership composition and qualifications.

This change was necessary to support removal of the PSRC/SRC composition and general qualification requirements from the Technical Specifications and incorporation into the FSAR consistent with NRC Generic Letter 88-06.

4) Revision to Table 7.5-2 to incorporate spec,fic instrument channels complying with NRC Regulatory Guide 1.97. This change was incorporated as a SERI followup action to NRC Inspection Report 50-416/88-11.

The update to the Current Cycle Safety Analysis (CCSA) which is considered part of the updated FSAR was submitted via AECM-88/0188, dated 11/21/88. The update to the CCSA reflects the fuel reload accomplished during the refueling outage that occurred in late 1987 ;0vele 3).

This transmittal also contains insert instructions for the enclosed updated r FSAR binder revisions. The binder revisions reflect the change from Mississippi [

Power & Light to System Energy Resources, Inc. as the owner / operator of GGNS.

As required by 10 CFR 50.71(e)(2) and as authorized by SERI, I hereby certify, to the best of my knowledge, information and belief, that the information given in the attached updhted FSAR, Revision 3, accurately presents changes made since the previous submittal, necessary to reflect infonnatiun and analyses submitted to the NRC or prepared pursuant to NRC requirement.
