Nuclear Regulatory Commission Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Washington, D. C. 20555 Attention: Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director

Dear Mr. Denton:

SUBJECT:

Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Units 1 and 2 Docket Nos. 50-416 and 50-417 License No. NPF-29 File: 0260/15742 Clarification To FSAR Appendix 9B Proposed Changes AECM-85/0236

REFERENCES:

(1) MP&L letter to H. R. Denton, AECM-85/0164, May 18, 1985 (2) MP&L letter to H. R. Denton, AECM-85/0217, July 22, 1985 This letter is intended to resolve and clarify an inconsistency identified by our Licensing staff in two letters recently submitted by Mississippi Power & Light Company (MP&L). MP&L proposed in Reference (1) certain changes to the Grand Gulf Nuclear Station (GGNS) Final Safety Analysis Report (FSAR) in the fire protection area (principally in Chapter 9). Later, in response to NRC Generic Letter 84-14, MP&L submitted in Reference (2) proposed FSAR changes in the area of training (including Section 13.2 and Appendix 9B).

Both letters, to some extent, affected Appendix 9B. The letter submittal (AECM-85/0217) incorporated the changes affecting Appendix 9B with the exception of one editorial omission. The proposed changes to Appendix 9B submitted by AECM-85/0217 should supercede all other proposed changes to Appendix 9B except for the following:

Appendix 9B, Section 9B.4 - The first paragraph, third sentence, should read as follows: "The methods for and results of the evaluation are presented in the Fire Hazards Analysis Report and the Table 9.5.11, respectively."
