Dear Mr.Zugger:

RE: D.C.Cook Nuclear.Plant NPDES Permit No.MI 0005827 Heating Boiler Blowdown A blowdown sample taken October 1, 1985 from the heating boiler which was placed in use on July 16, 1985 after a considerable period of inactivity, was found to contain an iron concentration of 1.48 PPM.Since chemical treatment of this boiler is made by blotch addition, we believe the iron level in the blowd'own is due to chemical shock.By copy of this letter, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is notified pursuant to the requirements of Appendix B, Part II, Nonradiological, Environmental Protection Plan,.Section 3.2.Very truly yours, Richard C.Menge Vice President RCM/df c: J G.Keppler-NRC, Region III W.G.Smith, Jr.I certify under penalty of law that I have personally examined and am familiar with the information submitted on this and all attached documents; and based on my inquiry of those individuals immediately responsible for obtaining the information, I believe the submitted information is true, accurate and complete.I am aware that there are significant penalties for submitting false information, including the possibility of fine and imprisonment.
