Vice President Paul D. Zugger, Executive Secretary Michigan Water Resources Commission Stevens D. Mason Building, Box 30026 Lansing, Michigan 48909

Dear Mr. Zugger:

RE: Donald C. Cook Nuclear Plant NPDES Permit No. MI 005827 Steam Generator Blowdown During the draining and cleaning of the Unit 2 Steam Generators, a suspended solids sample was taken it 2220 hours0.0257 days
0.617 hours
0.00367 weeks
8.4471e-4 months
on 6/16/86 from the startup blowdown flash tank. This sample was analyzed and found to have a suspended solids concentration of 172 ppm.

The elevated solids level is most likely the result of the boric acid which is added to the steam generators during the cleaning process.

The unit has been down for refueling since March 1, 1986.

By copy of this letter, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is notified pursuant to the requirements of Appendix B, Part II, Nonradiological Environmental Protection Plan, Section 3.2.

Very truly yours,

(
